By Rubén Morales Iglesias: If you’re hungry for basketball, you’ll have to watch television or go out and play the game as the Belize Elite Basketball League is on its Easter Break. Action will return on Friday, April 14.

And it’s going to be sizzling hot. Action will restart with the game BEBL fans are waiting to see. The present leaders, the Orange Walk Running Rebels (6-3) will be visiting Belize City to take on the team with the better win-loss record, the Benny’s Belize Hurricanes (6-2), at the Belize City Center.

The BEBL plays under FIBA rules which give two points for a win and one point for a loss. That has had fans used to American basketball and ignorant of the FIBA rules in heated arguments over the past week, particularly fans of the Benny’s Belize Hurricanes. But the Canes are not number one because they’ve played one game less. When all teams have played the same number of games, everything straightens out, which if not during the season, surely will happen at the end of the regular season. But for now, the Running Rebels are first, and the Canes are fourth.

The other game on April 14 will feature fifth-place Western Ballaz (4-5) and the third-place Digi Belize City Defenders (5-4) in San Ignacio.

On Saturday, April 15, the second-place Griga Dream Ballers (6-3) will host the sixth-place Belmopan Red Taigaz (3-5), while the seventh-place San Pedro Tiger Sharks (3-4) will take on the eighth-place Punta Gorda Panthers (1-8) at San Pedro.
