Ambassador Dr. Candice Pitts shares inspiring story with students at Pallotti High

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On March 31, 2023, Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Dr. Candice Pitts spent the last day of Women’s month at her alma mater, Pallotti High School.

Dr. Pitts shared inspiring and encouraging words with the students about her own academic journey.

“Of course, I shared a bit of my own experiences at PHS, from accruing 48 demerits in first form (1 suspension and 2 demerits away from an expulsion) to resettling and refocusing in second form, and returning to honor roll in third and fourth forms,” Dr. Pitts said.

“Fortunately, Sr. Benedict and other teachers saw beyond my mistakes, saw my potentials, and gave me a chance. In retrospect, the discipline, guidance, and nurturing environs that Pallotti offers were exactly what I needed at the time,” she added.

Dr. Pitts encouraged students to refocus themselves and march on.

“I also encouraged them to not be intimidated by the academic disciplines of Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics, and to know they have the faculties to function in these areas excellently and successfully just as anyone else,” Dr. Pitts stated.

Dr. Pitts reiterated the importance of celebrating each other’s successes, and support and celebrate them.

Dr. Pitts presented the President of the student council with a donation towards whichever of their fellow student they identify as being most in need, whether it is to be promoted to a higher form or graduating from fourth form.
