By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola had gone the entire season without losing until Sunday, April 2, when Benque Viejo United came to the Old Capital ravenous.
Their record shows a 3-0 loss to Verdes, but on the field, Port had beaten them 2-1 only to lose the match over a foreign they fielded and who the FFB Appeals Committee ruled was ineligible.
But on Sunday, Port finally went down to Benque Viejo United. Carlton ‘Fubu’ Thomas nailed them in the 19’. And that’s all that was needed.
Port fought back but Benque held on to the 1-0 lead until the final whistle to record the win and stay alive in the hunt for a playoff spot. Their 15 points are just three shy of Port (18), though the Belize City side have one game less.
Scoreline:
Port Layola 1-0 Benque Viejo United @ Marion Jones Sporting Complex, Belize City
BVU: Carlton ‘Fubu’ Thomas
