By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three former police officers who were convicted of beating a man to death while he was in their custody, are awaiting sentencing in the High Court of Belize.
At their last court appearance, Romelio Logan, Reydel Teck, and Jashimir Cobb, were further remanded to the Belize Central Prison, as the trial judge is awaiting a social inquiry report for each of them.
A social inquiry report is a process by which a convict is interviewed by a member of the Community Rehabilitation Department (CRD), to learn about factors that influenced them in the past that contributed to them turning to crime.
Their case was adjourned to April 28.
The officers were initially charged with murder in the death of bartender Edwin Ixpatec on March 14, 2016, but the charge was later downgraded to manslaughter. They were convicted in October 2022.
