International News: Australia joins list of countries to ban TikTok

Posted: Monday, April 3, 2023. 11:02 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: This week, the Government of Australia will announce a ban on Chinese owned video app, TikTok, Reuters report.

Several other countries have banned the popular dancing app citing security concerns.

After a review by the Government’s Home Affairs, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese agreed to a government-wide ban on the use of TikTok.

Australia now joins the U.S., Britain, New Zealand, Canada, Belgium and the European Commission that have implemented bans on TikTok.

The company has been under scrutiny due to concerns that data from the app owned by ByteDance could end up in the hands of the Chinese government.

However, the company noted that there is no evidence to suggest that TikTok is a security risk to Australians.
