International News: U.S. House Speaker to host Taiwan President on Wednesday

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, U.S. House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy will host Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-wen in California, Reuters report.

President Tsai is in Belize for her “Meeting Democratic Partners, Fostering Shared Prosperity” tour and will stopover in the U.S. after leaving Belize.

“On Wednesday, April 5th, Speaker Kevin McCarthy will be hosting a bipartisan meeting with the President of Taiwan at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library,” the House Speaker’s office noted.

This highly anticipated meeting will be the first of a Taiwanese President and a U.S. House Speaker in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the White House has urged China not to use President Tsai’s stopover in the U.S. as a pretext for aggression against Taiwan.
