Progresso blank International FC (Bandits) 2-0 in Premier League of Belize’s Closing Championship, move up to 3rd place

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC defeated International FC (Bandits) 2-0 at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk in Week 11 of the Premier League of Belize’s Closing Championship.

After a scoreless first half, Jonard Castillo opened the scoring at the beginning of the second half putting the score at 1-0 in the 47’. Then Kyle Budna sealed the win in the 58’.

Progresso now tally 20 points putting them past Port Layola (18), who fell 1-0 to Benque Viejo United. They trail the San Pedro Pirates (22) and (Verdes 21).

As to Internacional, all indications are that they will be returning to their Bandits’ name as the team suited up in their Builders Hardware green and yellow uniform with the Bandits logo rather than the Internacional black, white, and red uniform. Recently, in the middle of the PLB Closing Championship the club announced that it had acquired Mexican sponsorship through Internacional Fútbol Club and changed uniforms and logo. But things don’t seem to be working out as the team didn’t show up for their last game in San Pedro before the international break.

The PLB said that they haven’t been advised of any change yet but would now be referring to the team as Internacional (Bandits) as Bandits is the registered franchise with the PLB. That is a mouthful.

The Internacional/Bandits have been struggling and have only two points from 11 games to show for their efforts.
