Commerce Bight in redevelopment plans as passenger port and marina

By Aaron Humes: Dangriga’s Commerce Bight Port is being eyed as another potential area for tourism development as discussions are apace on the development of a passenger port and marina.

Cabinet announced last week the setting up of a ministerial subcommittee to study the feasibility of developing a passenger port and marina at the existing Port at Commerce Bight. The ministerial subcommittee will include the Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler and the Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics & E-Governance Michel Chebat.

Dr Zаbаnеh ѕаіd at that time that nеw іnvеѕtоrѕ hаvе соmе fоrwаrd wіth рlаnѕ thаt hе ѕаіd wоuld іnvоlvе tоurіѕm аnd а “сulturаl vіllаgе” аrоund thе Роrt, аѕ wеll аѕ rеdеvеlорmеnt fоr trаdе. Аn Іntеr-Аmеrісаn Dеvеlорmеnt Ваnk (ІDВ) ѕtudу іn 2017 еѕtіmаtеd thаt thе соѕt оf rеdеvеlорmеnt wоuld bе аrоund UЅ$60-80 mіllіоn.

Prime Minister John Briceño told Channel 5 News that the Executive bears in mind with respect to a potential cruise port for the area that “what drives tourism da noh di cruise tourism, you know, it is the overnight stay. So, we have to be very careful, we have to find that balance.”
