Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen attends special exhibition of Women Empowerment Project before departing Belize

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Tsai Ing-wen, attended a special exhibition of the Women Empowerment Project (Taiwan) which was held at the Best Western Biltmore Plaza.

The event was President Tsai’s last stop to conclude her three-day tour in Belize, and was attended by government ministers, local and Taiwanese media, members of the diplomatic corps as well as a gathering of female entrepreneurs that were the beneficiaries of the program.

Booths at the exhibit displayed products proudly made in Belize which included clothing, jewelry, artwork, food, and wines among others.

During her remarks President Tsai explained that Taiwan initiated the Women’s Empowerment Project in cooperation with its Latin American and Caribbean partners back in 2021.

“Thanks to everyone’s contributions and participation, to date, the Women’s Empowerment Project has helped more than 700 women in Belize enhance their skills or start a business. And the number of indirect beneficiaries is even greater, exceeding 2,000,” she said. “But these are not just numbers. Behind the statistics are many women, families, and children who have found real support. I look forward to seeing these women expand their careers and businesses, and to all women in Belize having greater opportunities to flourish.”

Following the exhibit, President Tsai departed for the Philip Goldson International Airport, where she was seen off by Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde and Ambassador Amalia Mai, CEO in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
