Chinese nationals charged for having fake residency documents get additional charge, further remanded to prison

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Chinese nationals 27-year-old Tianming Chen and 33-year-old, Kai Lin, who were charged in relation to false residency documentation, have been additionally charged and further remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

The duo appeared in court this week, having already been charged with one count each of uttering upon a false document, to be additionally charged with one count each of using a fabricated permit.

Their attorney, Arthur Saldivar, again pleaded for bail on their behalf stressing that they are not flight risks. The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the men have no ties to Belize. The Magistrate sided with the prosecution and further remanded the men until May 17, at which time they will receive their disclosure for the first offense and a trial date will be decided for the second offense.

Saldivar also said that he will be withdrawing his application for habeas corpus from the High Court of Belize with respect to both his clients, and simply applying for bail.
