By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Globally, inflation is affecting economies with the rising cost of raw materials for food production.
Last week, the price of chicken per pound increased from $3 to $3.10 and the Minister of Agriculture, Jose Mai said that the prices of goods have increased around the world and Belize is now feeling the effects of inflation.
Belizeans have taken to social media to share the hike in prices of basic food items including flour.
And when flour prices rise, well, the price of cakes, buns, bread, puddings and other baked goods is also hiked.
Area Representative for Albert, Tracy Taegar Panton posted a picture of a new price list for some of Belize’s favorite baked products showing a whopping $5 for a slice of potato pudding, cassava pudding and bread pudding.
This has many Belizeans rethinking the hot cross bun tradition this Easter.
How are the prices looking in your neck of the woods?
