By Aaron Humes: On Tuesday afternoon, Police found a body in advanced decomposition beside the lagoon in the Commercial Free Zone, Corozal District, later identified as Carlos Alberto Yepes Rosas, 33, of Santa Elena, Chetumal, Quintana Roo.
The body lay under three pallets partially submerged in water with injuries to the center of the forehead and the back of the head.
Initial investigations reveal that Yepes Rosas and one Jose Julian Martinez rode via motorcycle around noon on Saturday to the Free Zone to move some merchandise, and the former had not been seen since. His relatives came to the police booth at the Northern Border on Tuesday to make a missing person report. Later on Tuesday, police were informed of the discovery of the body by the Free Zone’s security officers.
Martinez is now being sought for questioning. Yepes Rosas’ body was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital and pronounced dead. His body is now at the National Forensic Science Service morgue on Price Barracks Road, Ladyville, awaiting a post-mortem examination, as police investigations continue.
