By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-Wen met with U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in California.
“I am honored to have the opportunity this morning to meet with cross-party leaders of Congress at the Reagan Library, arranged by Speaker McCarthy. We discussed the common values and interests of Taiwan and the United States, and we also believe that we should work together to protect peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, prosperity and development of Taiwan-US society,” President Tsai said.
President Tsai says that she will continue to deepen Taiwan’s long-standing and strong partnership with the United States.
“I am very moved by the solidarity of Speaker McCarthy and multiple leaders of Congress across political lines. They support Taiwan’s move and let us know that the Taiwanese people are not alone in such a volatile geopolitical environment,” President Tsai added.
President Tsai also thanked all of Taiwan’s supporters and Taiwanese people around the world for their support.
“Taiwan will not be knocked down, we will go our own way. We will continue to work hard to create more and greater international space for Taiwan. I also hope that all Taiwanese can be more glorious and proud when they talk about “I am Taiwanese,” President Tsai stated.
