Man fined $1,500 for stealing $120 dildo from his cousin

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man convicted of theft will have to pay more than 10 times the value of the item he stole.

Twenty-six-year-old Joshua Escalante was found guilty of stealing a $120 vibrating dildo from his cousin.

He initially pleaded not guilty and received bail in the sum of $600 but today, changed his plea to guilty.

For his guilty plea he was fined $1,500 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by june 30 or he will spend six months in prison for default.

The female complainant told police that she was preparing to sell the item to a buyer she met on Facebook, but Escalante told her he could find another buyer for it. She said she later discovered that he had taken it without her permission, and she pressed charges.
