Darcel Canto appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week, charged with one count of caused bicycle to proceed up a one way street and one count of escaping lawful custody.

He pleaded guilty to the bicycle offense, but not guilty to the escape. In court, Canto told the Magistrate that he fled because he knew the officers planned to beat him up.

For that guilty plea, he was fined $100 plus a $5.00 cost of court fine of which he was given until May 19, 2023 to pay, in default, one month. For the escape, Magistrate Gordon offered him bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount which he was unable to meet and was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until May 31, 2023.
