By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On April 5, 2023, the Ministry of Labour announced the official appointment of Claire Lamb as the Deputy Labour Commissioner for the Labour Department.
Lamb has over 23 years of work experience in the field of labour relations and she has participated in several training courses specialising in mediation, occupational safety and health, trafficking in person, migrant workers, international labour standards, development of labour regulations, labour market information, public employment services, collective bargaining agreement, et cetera.
Throughout her career with the Department, Lamb has contributed to the development and implementation of several policies, programmes and activities such as, the HIV and AIDS Workplace Education Programmes in several workplaces, reviewing of labour legislation with an emphasis on women employment, the Labour Complaints Management System, the Belize National Child Labour Policy and Strategy 2022-2025, and the Special Purpose Temporary Employment Permits, among others.
In 2019, Lamb conducted an in-depth analysis of the inspection services provided by the Labour Department to identify ways through which the Department could streamline the process to become compliant with the Labour Inspection Convention adopted in 1947.
Lamb is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies.
She also holds a Diploma in Industrial and Employment Relations from the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organisation in Turin, Italy.
The Ministry congratulated Lamb on her appointment to the post of Deputy Labour Commissioner and applauds her continued contribution to strong labour relations for the benefit of Belize’s economy.
