Police Commissioner’s Easter message is one of celebration and caution

By Benjamin Flowers: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams released his Easter message today, paying homage to the reason for the holidays, the festivities that come with the season and an appeal for Belizeans to be safe.

Williams reminds that the purpose of the Easter Holidays is to reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for all mankind, and says that he hopes that the joy of his resurrection will transcend all sadness and despair.

Likewise he acknowledged that some Belizeans will choose to use the time to be festive, taking road trips and swimming trips, and asked that those doing so be vigilant.

“Therefore, the Belize Police Department implores you to be extremely careful when using the roadways. Drive within the legal speed limits and adhere to all the rules of the road, including wearing your seatbelts and having due consideration for other road users. Do not drink and drive: they can be a lethal combination. Your life and the lives of others rely on the choices you make, so as you enjoy yourselves, please choose to be alert and careful,” Williams said.

He asked those using the waterways to bear in mind that drowning is a real possibility, to consider that the water may be deeper than it was originally perceived to be, and that even good swimmers can drown.

“Let this Easter Holiday be one that we die to the pursuit of our selfish desires and pleasures and instead rise to awareness of the impact our choices have on others,” Williams added.

He also wished all Belizeans at home and within the diaspora a Happy Easter on behalf of himself and the Belize Police Department.
