Port Authority issues updated water taxi fare schedule

By Aaron Humes: Attention to those seeking to visit the Cayes, Chetumal, Livingston, Puerto Barrios, Placencia and Independence this weekend by water taxi: the Port Authority has issued an updated schedule of maximum fares to be charged for adults, children and tourists.

As occurred around this time last year, the Authority says it has not caused fares to be adjusted and if you are charged more than legislated by any of the licensed water taxi companies, you can report them and get your money back.

Passengers on Caribbean Sprinter Company (formerly Ocean Ferry and Caye Caulker Water Taxi Association) pay $31 one-way from Belize City to Caye Caulker and from Caye Caulker to San Pedro, and $41 from Belize City to San Pedro. Children’s rates (ages 3 to 10 years) are $25 and $35 respectively, while the corresponding tourist fares are $57 and $46 (Belize City-Caye Caulker and Caye Caulker-San Pedro) and $67 and $56 (Belize City-San Pedro) respectively.

The same rates apply to San Pedro Belize Express (SPBE), with the addition of the routes to Caye Chapel from Belize City and Caye Caulker. For tourists, the rates are $43 and $27 one-way for adults and children between the City and La Isla Cariñosa, and $63 and 31 going to and from La Isla Bonita. The rates from San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker to Chetumal are $144 and $156 one-way.
