Woman allegedly punches lover in the face during jealous, drunken rage; claims she was unfaithful

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City woman is out on bail after being charged for allegedly punching her lover in her face, after accusing her of being unfaithful.

Twenty-four-year-old Sharry Mendez appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged with a single count of assault.

The 25-year-old victim told police that Mendez came home drunk and accused her of being unfaithful without reason. The victim said she began to argue with Mendez, and during the dispute Mendez punched her in the face.

In court, Mendez pleaded guilty, but did not accept the facts as was presented to her, so an equivocal plea of not guilty was presented on her behalf.

She was granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same, which she was able to meet.

Mendez is due back in court on May 19.
