Benque Viejo del Carmen celebrates Good Friday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Celebration of Good Friday is in full swing in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

The Dramatization of the Stations of the Cross started at 10:00 am this morning culminating with the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus Christ.

At 3:00, the Divine Mercy Novena and the Celebration of The Passion of Christ will be held at the Mount Carmel Catholic Church on Church Street. The Passion consists of three parts: The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ and Universal Prayers, the Veneration of The Cross, and Holy Communion.

The Holy Burial Procession (Solemne Procesión de Santo Entierro) accompanied by the Benque Viejo Marching Band starts at 5:00 pm. The Solemn Procession passes through the streets lined with colourful sawdust carpets done by parishioners under the leadership of the Benque House of Culture. A similar procession also gets underway in neighbouring San José Succotz at 5:00 pm as well.
