By Breaking Belize News Staff: A fatal road traffic incident involving a pickup and truck occurred on Holy Thursday afternoon on the George Price Highway, resulting in the death of one man. The tragic event took place just one day before Good Friday, a day traditionally marked by limited movement and reflection for many religious believers in Belize.
The accident happened at mile 28 on the George Price Highway, shortly after passing the Belize Zoo on the way to Belize City. Multiple injuries were reported and the driver of the pickup, who has since been identified as 39-year-old Roel Moguel from Orange Walk, lost his life in the incident.
Eyewitnesses claim that the pickup was traveling towards Belize City while the truck was heading in the direction of Belmopan when the collision occurred. The impact was so severe that both vehicles swerved off the road and in their respective side of the highway shoulder.
This fatal event led to significant traffic congestion, with numerous Easter vacationers traveling out of Belize City experiencing lengthy delays. The traffic backed up for miles in both direction, and the disruption lasted for well over an hour affecting many who were looking forward to their holiday plans.
The incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety, particularly during the busy holiday season.
