By Breaking Belize News Staff: A German national living in the Toledo District is recovering after being violently attacked during a home invasion earlier today.
Fifty-four-year-old Cristoph Konig told police that around 7:00 a.m. he was doing some gardening in his yard when three men wearing camouflage clothing and ski masks surrounded him. The men, one of them holding a handgun while the other two had machetes, began asking Konig where he keeps his money.
They took him into his home, tied him up and began beating him in the head with a metal mag light. One of the attackers then took a knife and began cutting off his left ear. Fearing for his life, Konig told the men what they wanted to know and they took his money and left. Konig said he managed to free himself by cutting his restraints with a small scissors and when he made checks he found that the men had made off with BZ$10,000, €2,000(Euros), and an undisclosed amount of pesos.
He later received treatment at the Punta Gorda Hospital.
Police are investigating.
