By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology (MOECST) on Good Friday congratulated the Benque House of Culture for keeping Holy Week traditions alive.
“𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 once again in Belize’s westernmost town, Benque Viejo del Carmen,” the MOECST said in a social media post.
“Families, friends and community groups have gathered to decorate the streets with beautiful, colourful and intricate alfombras.”
The Benque House of Culture has over the years led the drive to line the Benque Viejo del Carmen streets where the Good Friday procession will pass with colourful sawdust carpets. They are now also assisting the San Ignacio – Santa Elena House of Culture in doing a similar drive.
“Kudos to our team at the Benque House of Culture (NICH) for their role in the preservation and promotion of this tradition,” the MOESCT said.
