Monkey River security guard captures and ties up one of three burglars until police arrive on scene

By Breaking Belize News Staff: One of three burglars who broke into Tun and Associates Hardware store on the Monkey River Road in Monkey River, Toledo District, around 9 p.m. on Holy Thursday night was caught and restrained by the on-duty security guard and held until police arrived.

According to police reports, Darvin Portillo, an 18-year-old Honduran national, was one of three men who broke into Tun and Associates Hardware when the security guard heard a noise and went to make check. The security guard observed two men inside the store and another keeping watch outside. All three attempted to escape but quick work from the security guard led to Portillo’s capture.

The security guard tied up Portillo and kept him in detention until police arrived on the scene. When police reached, the store’s owner informed them that they had a suspect in custody. Portillo has been detained pending charges as the investigation continues.
