Police increase presence in Maya Mopan area to address residents’ concerns over escalating violence

Posted: Friday, April 7, 2023. 9:35 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department has increased its presence in the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan with the installation of a new precinct.

The precinct began operations in late March as part of the department’s response to a surge in gun violence in the area late last year which included the tragic triple murder of Jon, David, and Vivian Ramnarace.

Residents in the area who wish to make a report can call the precinct at 822-0201 or send a message via Whatsapp to 602-6000.

Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, announced last month that plans are in the works for a total of six new police buildings, three new police stations and three sub-stations. Works on these facilities should begin this year as the funds for these buildings are included in the 2023-2024 national budget.
