Teenager shot at bar in Santa Rosa village, Stann Creek

By Aaron Humes: Police have detained one person in an ongoing investigation into a shooting incident late on Thursday night in the village of Santa Rosa, Stann Creek District.

At around 11:25 p.m., police received information from a caller about a shooting incident at Flex Bar near the village school. The victim, identified as 19-year-old Wellington McKenzie, was apparently shot in the leg and was transported to the Independence Polyclinic by friends. He was later transported to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga.

Initial investigation reveals that the suspect was ordering food at an establishment when McKenzie approached him and asked for a beer, which he refused to give. As a result, McKenzie allegedly threw a pint bottle at his vehicle. Subsequently, the suspect pulled his licensed firearm and fired a shot which caught McKenzie on his left foot.

McKenzie is in treatment and Police investigation continues.
