Ancient history brought to life: Mind-blowing digital rebirth of 35,000-year-old Egyptian ancestor revealed

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Brazilian experts have made a breakthrough in the field of archaeology and anthropology, using digital imaging to recreate the face of an Egyptian man who lived 35,000 years ago. The team of Moacir Elias Santos, an archaeologist, and Cícero Moraes, a 3D designer, used the process of facial approximation to create the image based on the skeletal remains of the man, identified as Nazlet Khater 2, who was discovered in 1980 in the Nile Valley in Egypt.

The anthropological analysis of the remains showed that the man was of African ancestry, aged between 17 to 29 years old at the time of his death, and stood over five feet and three inches tall. The team used photogrammetry to extract 3D information from photographs of the man’s remains at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, which helped them recreate the man’s facial features.

The process of facial approximation has been used by experts to determine the evolution of human beings over centuries. This new research by Santos and Moraes is expected to inform other archaeologists’ work on human evolution and the two plan to showcase their work in an exhibition in the future. The study was published in the Brazilian journal OrtogOnline last month.

According to Moraes, while the man’s jaw is stronger than that of modern humans today, 35,000 years ago, humans were almost the same. “If a man of that time could walk down the street (today), people would not see any difference from others,” he said. This discovery is important for understanding human evolution and adds to the growing body of knowledge about our ancestors.
