By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Despite not playing on the weekend, Verdes remain at the helm of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) with 24 points from 11 games. Verdes took over the lead midweek when they defeated Port Loyola, skipping over the San Pedro Pirates.
Neither San Pedro nor Verdes played this past weekend as their match was called off because of lack of referees. The FFB and PLB said they will investigate the reported lack of accommodation for the Belize City referees before deciding on what to do with the game.
Due to the un-played match, both Verdes and the San Pedro Pirates are the only teams with 11 games. All the others have played 12.
On Sunday, Progresso totalled 23 points with their 8-0 demolition of Wagiya, and also jumped over the Pirates.
Port Layola, beat Altitude 2-0, are in fourth place with 21 points.
Benque Viejo United downed Internacional 2-1 totalled 18 points and moved up to the sixth spot skipping over Altitude. The Southern side have 16 points and are now in seventh place.
Wagiya and Internacional are stuck with three and two points respectively at the bottom of the standings.
