By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Taiwan has found a symbolic way to respond to recent aggression by China.
According to the BBC, Taiwan’s popular Air Force badge has gone viral since it depicts a Taiwanese black bear punching Winnie the Pooh, who often appears in memes representing Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Social media users were quick to notice and share.
There have been heightened tensions between Taiwan and China since China views Taiwan as its territory and has long vowed to “reunify” the self-governing democratic island.
China noted that on Monday it finished 3 days of military drills that included “sealing off” Taiwan. The drills come after Taiwanese President, Tsai Ing-Wen met with leaders in Central America and U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The symbolic badges also show a Taiwanese fighter pilot slapping a panda, China’s national symbol.
The badges produced by Wings Fan Goods in Taoyuan city have now sold out in Taiwan.
