By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have arrested two people in connection with a fatal home invasion in the Tres Puntas area of San Ignacio Town over the Easter Weekend and are preparing to arrest several more, Police Commissioner Chester Williams confirmed.
Williams said that, following the incident, which included a shootout between police and the two perpetrators, officers have managed to arrest both suspects. He noted that police also recovered two firearms that were stolen from the homeowner, William Smith, who was killed during the home invasion, along with a gun used by one of the perpetrators in the incident.
“At this time the investigators are putting the pieces together and hopefully we should be able to lay charges against those two individuals today as well as some who we believe were involved in the setting up of the entire matter. They will be charged for conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary,” Williams said.
He went on to say that Smith’s family can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that those responsible are going to face swift justice. He assured that police are doing all that they can to present the best case possible in court which will lead to a conviction.
The incident occurred on Easter Sunday, April 9, sometime after 10:00 a.m. Police found Williams’s body with apparent gunshot wounds, after the shootout which led to the detention of the first suspect. The second was captured on Monday.
