By Breaking Belize News Staff: Caribbean Loop News reports that police in Guyana have arrested a woman in connection with a threat made on the life of President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
Assistant Police Commissioner Wendell Blanhum, Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, confirmed the arrest of the unidentified woman, who made the threat in a post on social media, violating the Racial Hostility Act.
In a video posted on TikTok on April 9, 2023, which has garnered over 98,000 views, the Indo-Guyanese woman stated, “The president needs to be assassinated.” She made the comment when prompted by an unseen and unidentified individual to repeat her statement. The video also features the woman directing racial slurs against an Afro-Guyanese man.
Additionally, police are investigating a social media report in which an Indo-Guyanese man encourages causing severe harm to Afro-Guyanese individuals.
Earlier this month, Tacuma Ogunseye, the executive chairman of the opposition Working People’s Alliance (WPA), was released on GUY$100,000 bail after being charged with attempting to incite racial hostility. The 71-year-old Ogunseye, who had voluntarily turned himself in to the authorities, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
