By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under-20 Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) conducted their official training session at the Estadio Nacional de Fútbol in Managua, Nicaragua, in preparation for their initial game against Costa Rica at 4:00 pm on Saturday in the 2023 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship Qualifiers.
Belize is participating in Group F along with Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and St. Lucia.
“Our U20 Jaguars are feeling motivated and ready for their first match tomorrow against Costa Rica,” said the Football Federation of Belize in a social media post on Friday.
“Official training session complete!! Join us in sending them words of encouragement as they prepare for their big game tomorrow!”
The BWNT’s second game will pit them against Guatemala on Monday, April 17, at 4:00 pm. In their match they will meet homestanding Nicaragua at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 19. The BWNT will close their first round participation on Friday, April 21, against St Lucia at 4:00 pm.
Twenty-eight countries are competing in six different groups. Four groups are made up of five countries and two of four. All groups will play round robins.
The six group winners will advance to the 2023 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship. The region’s top two ranked nations, United States and Mexico, already qualified to the Concacaf Championship which is scheduled for May 24 – June 3, 2023, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The top three finishers from the eight-team competition will qualify to next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Group A comprising Canada, Martinique, El Salvador, Cuba, and St Vincent and the Grenadines are playing at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.
Group B, made up of Haiti, Sint Maarten, Panama, and the Bahamas, face each other at the Rignaal Jean Francisca Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao.
Group C ‘s matches will be played at the Estadio Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The group features the hosts Dominican Republic, Guyana, Suriname, and Dominica.
Group D, consisting of Trinidad and Tobago, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guadeloupe will also be played at the Rignaal Jean Francisca Stadium in Willemstad.
Like Group F, Group E is also being played at the Estadio Nacional in Managua. The group features Honduras, Bermuda, Jamaica, Anguilla, and French Guiana.
