The Premier League of Belize (PLB) is winding down its Closing Championship regular season features four games on the weekend: two on Saturday and two on Sunday competition. Two games are left for each team with exception of Verdes and San Pedro Pirates, who have an extra game pending.

All games have playoffs implications as five teams are vying for the remaining three posts since Verdes are the only team qualified for the playoffs so far.

On Saturday, April 15, fifth place Benque Viejo United, hunting for a spot in the playoffs, are taking on Wagiya at 7:30 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

On Saturday as well Internacional-Bandits, the last place team, will be up against the Champions Altitude, who have not had the best of competitions. The match is slated for 7:30 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in capital Belmopan.

Then on Sunday, Port Layola will be hosting the San Pedro Pirates at 4:00 pm at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City. The match is ‘a must-win’ for both teams. So, expect both teams to come out pumping from the initial whistle.

League leaders Verdes, for their part, are matching up against second-place Progresso. The surprising Orange District side (Though geographically Progresso is in the Corozal District, Progresso play out of Orange Walk.) broke into the second position last week with their 8-0 whipping of Wagiya and San Pedro’s inactivity. The match is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Sunday at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio. A win for Progresso will secure them a spot in the playoffs. Verdes already qualified for the playoffs with their 2-0-win last week over Port Loyola. However, the Green Machine are on a roll right now and are not about to let up.
