Man remanded to prison for leaving his firearm with someone who did not have a gun license

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A resident of Freetown Sibun Village, Belize District, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after leaving his licensed firearm with someone who did not have a gun license.

Forty-nine-year-old Lawrence Lopez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded not guilty to the offense. He was informed that his charge is an offense under Section 16 of the Crimes Control Criminal and Justice Act, which stipulates that bail cannot be granted at the Magistrate level.

He was remanded to prison until June 13, 2023.

Lopez still has the option to apply for bail through the High Court of Belize through the assistance of an attorney.
