Belize City father preparing to give up a kidney to save his 14-year-old daughter’s life, needs your support

By Benjamin Flowers: If your child was battling a life-threatening illness, how far would you go to get the necessary treatment? Belize City resident Diego Samos says that he will go as far as to give up one of his own kidneys so his daughter can live, but he needs help to cover the cost of the surgery.

Samos told Breaking Belize News (BBN) that in January, his daughter, 14- year-old St.Catherine Academy student Vicky Samos, began feeling ill with symptoms such as vomiting, headache, and fatigue.

What started as a routine visit to the clinic to have the issue diagnosed, morphed into Vicky being rushed for emergency medical care. Following the necessary lab work Samos’s family was met with the harrowing news that Vicky was suffering from Lupus and was going through Stage 5 chronic kidney disease (end-stage renal failure). She is also suffering from arterial hypertension, anemia, and doctors believe she is possibly affected by lupus nephritis.

Through government assistance, Vicky has been able to undergo hemodialysis; however, those sessions are coming to an end and she desperately needs a kidney transplant to have a fighting chance. Samos explained that doctors told him the procedure can be in excess of $100,000, a price that he said he is willing to pay if it means his daughter will live.
