By Aaron Humes: The Belize Coast Guard has detailed its response to an incident this weekend in Corozal Bay which left seven in the sea.
The BCG Consejo patrol responded and rescued seven persons who were in distress after their vessel capsized 10 miles off Sarteneja. Four were drifting on an icebox and three were holding onto the vessel.
In its social media post, the Coast Guard noted, “The rescue was possible because they were able to make a distress call, and very important, they had life jackets onboard.” There was no indication of what caused the incident although sea conditions for the last few days have been rough.
The mariners remind that in an emergency, the Coast Guard can be reached anywhere in the country at 999.
