By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville resident was fined in court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to knocking down a police officer who was riding a motorcycle in a hit and run on Holy Saturday.
Twenty-two-year-old Julian Alvarez Jr. Was arraigned on three traffic offenses: drove motor vehicle without due care and attention; failed to stop and render aid; and failed to give way when changing directions. He pleaded guilty to all of them.
He was fined $100 for each offense plus $5 cost of court for each offense, for a total of $315. Alvarez was given until May 31, June 30, and July 31, respectively to pay off the fines or he would spend a month in prison for each one he defaults on.
On Saturday, April 8, Police constable Dyron Chan reported that he was on the Lord’s Bank road headed to work when a vehicle knocked him off his motorcycle and kept on driving. Alvarez was later arrested in connection with the incident.
