By Rubén Morales Iglesias: San Pedro Pirates are on their way to Belize City to play Port Layola today at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in the Premier League of Belize.
The Pirates are backtracking on their threat to withdraw from the Premier League of Belize after the PLB awarded league leaders Verdes three points for the match both were supposed to play on Holy Saturday.
The match wasn’t played after the Belize City referees left San Pedro before game time because they were not afforded after-game accommodations, as per PLB championship bye-laws, by the Pirates.
“After reading a letter sent by PORT FC, pointing the financial distress they will be, if there is no gate income, due to San Pedro Pirates FC not continue in the tournament, we feel their pain and have decided that we cannot act selfish as we do have love for our fellow clubs and for the SPORT,” the San Pedro Pirates said in a social media post just after 10:00 am on Sunday.

“Pirates, with the assistance of special people in the community, fans and sports lover will be making it to the game PORT FC vs San Pedro Pirates FC at Marion Jones at 4PM.”
“We are continuing with our fight against a injust award of points. That will not be left without unfolding all the truth.
“We are PIRATES all day everyday!”
The decision by San Pedro to withdraw wouldn’t have only affected Port financially, it would also have decided the playoffs (automatically qualifying Port Layola, Progresso, and Benque Viejo United forthwith) giving Champions Altitude no chance of qualifying.
In the other Sunday game, Verdes host Progresso FC at the Norman Broaster Stadium at 4:00 pm.
On Saturday night, Altitude routed Internacional 6-0 in Belmopan while Benque Viejo United undid Wagiya 5-1.
