Men charged for the murder of vegetable vendor Jose Lopez remanded to prison

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The two men accused of the murder of Valley of Peace vegetable vendor Jose Antonio Lopez have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Both accused, 23-old Milton Nunez and 21-year-old Emerson Elijio, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, jointly charged with a single count of murder.

No plea was taken from them and they were remanded to prison until June 19.

Lopez, a father of four, traveled to Belize City twice a week to conduct business. He was shot and killed during a robbery at a bar in the Gungulung area of Belize City on April 12. The robbers made off with his wallet and licensed firearm, which he never got a chance to use.

Notably, the two accused have not been charged in connection with the robbery.
