Port Layola hold San Pedro to 2-2 stalemate in Belize City in Premier League of Belize

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola played to a 2-2 stalemate at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City on Sunday evening in the Premier League of Belize.

For a while the match was up in the air when the San Pedro Pirates threatened to pull out of the Premier League of Belize after the PLB awarded Verdes the three points from the unplayed match on Holy Saturday at San Pedro. The island squad backtracked on their earlier decision on Sunday morning and took a boat to Belize City.

Gilroy ‘Bredda’ Thurton hit the opener in the 26’ but Argentine striker Facundo Garnier evened the score in the 56’ before putting the islanders ahead 2-1 off a penalty kick in the 70’.

Shawn Young tied the match in the 73’ for the home team.

Verdes defeated Progresso 2-0 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio in the other Sunday match.

Altitude trounced Internacional 6-0 and Benque United pounded Wagiya 5-1 on Saturday.
