By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize play Guatemala on Monday at 4:00 pm in the 2023 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship Qualifiers at the Estadio Nacional de Fútbol in Managua, Nicaragua.
Both teams are hoping for a better performance after initial losses last Saturday.
The Under-20 Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) had a dismal start falling 13-0 to Costa Rica on Saturday while Guatemala were shocked 3-1 by Nicaragua.
Guatemala go into today’s match as favourites, but the Belize side is expectant focused on rebounding today as well. Hopefully, they will have put away the jitters of the first game.
The BWNT’s third match will be against Nicaragua at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 19. The BWNT closes the round robin on Friday, April 21, against St Lucia at 4:00 pm.
Twenty-eight countries are competing in six different groups. All groups, made up of either four or five countries, are playing round robins.
The six group winners advance to the 2023 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship where they join the region’s top two ranked nations, United States and Mexico.
The Concacaf Championship is scheduled for May 24 – June 3, 2023, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The top three finishers from the eight-team competition will qualify to the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
