By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes confirmed on their upward rise after stumbling earlier in the season. On Sunday, the Cayo club scored two late goals to defeat Progresso 2-0 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.
Trimayne ‘Pepa’ Harris unlocked the deadlock in the 81’ and Mexican Nicolás Gómez secured the victory three minutes later in the 84’.
Despite the loss, second-place Progresso, with 23 points, maintain their hopes of making the Premier League of Belize playoffs but will have to wait until next week for a final decision after Sunday’s loss. Progresso will have to battle it out with fourth-place Port Layola (22) at home at the People’s Stadium on Sunday, April 23.

Verdes, who are the only club already qualified to the playoffs, will face Altitude in their last game on Saturday. Altitude (19) are in sixth place and have the slightest chance of making the playoffs so a win over Verdes at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium is a must. Makes for a great match.
Port Layola and San Pedro drew 2-2 in the other Sunday match at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.
Altitude blew out Internacional 6-0 and Benque United routed Wagiya 5-1 on Saturday.
Scoreline:
Verdes 2-0 Progresso
V: Trimayne ‘Pepa’ Harris 81’, Nicolás Gómez 84’
