Police seek public assistance in identifying vehicles involved in hit-and-run of soldier Hector Cho

Posted: Tuesday, April 18, 2023. 10:44 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police this week said they are still looking for the perpetrators in a hit-and-run traffic accident on the weekend on the Philip Goldson Highway that claimed the life of Belize Defence Force soldier Hector Cho, 38.

Reports are that just before ten p.m. on Thursday, Cho was already lying on the highway motionless when a concerned motorist stopped and exited his vehicle to inform another motorist of the body on the road. At the same time, a car drove by and hit Cho, dragging him about fifty feet from where he was seen lying. That vehicle then sped off in the direction of Belize City. Cho was transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Monday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division, said he hoped the general public could assist: “An investigation is being conducted. Again, we want to ask the general public for assistance – if anybody saw anything, as up to now no one has come forward with any information as to which vehicle ran over him on the highway.”

As for how Cho got there, ACP Romero said that police investigations revealed he had been hanging out with some fellow soldiers, but apparently, they parted ways and he was at the accident site by himself.
