By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three men were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday for drug trafficking, but only one was fined for the offense.
The trio, 27-year-old Francis Waight, 21-year-old Leo Wikshire, and 24-year-old Kishane Leslie, all appeared unrepresented charged jointly with a single count of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another, in relation to 200.27 grams of marijuana.
In court, Waight pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of possession simplitica, telling the magistrate that the drugs belonged to him.
For his guilty plea, Waight was $600 plus $5.00 cost of court and was given until June 30, 2023, to pay or he will spend six months in prison for default.
With his guilty plea, the prosecution withdrew the charge from the other two accused.
Police stopped a vehicle with the three men inside on Sunday, April 16, at the Mile 15 vehicular checkpoint in Hattieville. The officers say that when Waight, who was driving the vehicle at the time rolled down his window, there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, which prompted a search.
