By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel was re-elected by the country’s National Assembly despite severe economic conditions.
CNN reports that the President’s re-election by the assembly was expected.
Diaz-Canel succeeded Raul Castro as President in 2018.
Diaz-Canel is the first person born after the 1959 revolution and not named Castro to hold the Presidential office.
Castro is retired but still holds a seat in the National Assembly and the title of Army General.
