Opposition Leader meets Ombudsman

By Aaron Humes: Newly appointed Ombudsman, Retired Major H. Gilbert Swaso, met today with Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow.

Barrow called the meeting “productive,” adding, “The Opposition looks forward to a strengthened Office of the Ombudsman that will be accessible in every district to ensure the rights of citizens are protected and justice prevails for every race, gender, class and region throughout Belize.”

The former Mayor of Dangriga and Ports Commissioner among other posts was formally appointed in December and inherits an office that has been falling short of its goals and objectives – to receive and address public complaints against bodies and authorities in Government and associated with it including the Police Department, Belize Defence Force and others.
