Belize whip St Lucia 6-1 in 2023 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship Qualifiers in Nicaragua

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under-20 Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) closed its participation in the 2023 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship Qualifiers with a 6-1 lashing of St Lucia at the Estadio Nacional de Fútbol in Managua, Nicaragua.

Details are not available as yet, but it was Belize’s best performance at the tournament where our young women had lost the first three Group F matches in the championship. Last Saturday, our team lost 13-0 against Costa Rica. They fared off better against Guatemala falling 3-0 on Monday. Then, on Wednesday, they performed better against Nicaragua but still lost 3-2.

Today’s performance was redemption of sorts after the dismal results against the Central American countries. St Lucia had been routed 9-0 by Costa Rica and 5-0 by Guatemala.

Nicaragua play Costa Rica today at 7:00 pm.

Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Nicaragua lead the group with six points each. Belize has three and St Lucia don’t have any.
