“We discussed the safety of school children who walk along the highway, the placement of speed bumps, and the use of the grievance mechanism.”

“The purpose of the meeting is to inform the respective residents on the final road design and on the importance of adhering to safety precautions in an effort to minimize the risk of accidents during civil work operations,” the MIDH said in a social media post.
Salazar said the MIDH team explained to the residents the scope of the work which includes road widening, putting in bus sheds, safety features, sidewalks, and signage (road markings). The MIDH also told the villagers how long the work is going to take and what to expect while the road construction goes through their villages. Salazar said that road construction through villages normally takes three months.
