By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Representatives of Corozal village councils and schools attended the Ministry of Infrastructure Development community consultation on the Philip Goldson Highway rehabilitation project held on Thursday for residents of Santa Clara, San Roman, and Louisville villages at the Centro Escolar Mexico Junior College in San Roman, Corozal District.

The community consultation was held to inform the residents of the three villages that are going to benefit from the Philip Goldson Highway rehabilitation, what to expect when the MIDH crews conduct through the villages the works that form part the Philip Goldson Highway and Remate Bypass Road Upgrading Project.

MIDH Representative Alexis Salazar said one of the main concerns expressed by the residents was flooding that affects Louisville.

“Our team went out to look at the area with villagers after the meeting,” Salazar said,

“We discussed the safety of school children who walk along the highway, the placement of speed bumps, and the use of the grievance mechanism.”

“The purpose of the meeting is to inform the respective residents on the final road design and on the importance of adhering to safety precautions in an effort to minimize the risk of accidents during civil work operations,” the MIDH said in a social media post.

Salazar said the MIDH team explained to the residents the scope of the work which includes road widening, putting in bus sheds, safety features, sidewalks, and signage (road markings). The MIDH also told the villagers how long the work is going to take and what to expect while the road construction goes through their villages. Salazar said that road construction through villages normally takes three months.
