Taxis collide in Chetumal; Mexican taxi driver dies

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Reports out of Chetumal say a Belizean taxi driver of a Grand Marquis crashed his taxi with a Mexican taxi at an intersection by Inegi after midday.

The Mexican taxi driver allegedly died in the crash. An elderly lady traveling in the Mexican taxi was injured, according to Periodismo Urbano.

According to the Mexican outlet, one of the two vehicles ran a stop sign, allegedly the Belizean taxi driver. The Belizean driver of Corozal taxi D-00948, who hasn’t been identified yet, told Periodismo Urbano that his brake failed and his car wouldn’t stop. He said he went to Chetumal to take someone shopping. His passenger was shopping at the moment of the crash.

According to Periodismo Urbano, the Mexican taxi driver wasn’t wearing his safety belt.
