Mother and infant attacked in Santiago Juan area of San Ignacio Town; Calls for increased police presence

By Breaking Belize News Staff: In a harrowing incident today, a young mother with her 9-month-old baby was assaulted in their own yard in the Santiago Juan area of San Ignacio Town. The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was spending time with her child in a hammock when a strange man approached her, requesting a dollar. Upon her refusal, the man proceeded to attack her with a stick.

The victim’s spouse was away at work during the incident, and she later reported that she experienced difficulties when trying to contact the local police department. It took nearly 40 minutes of persistent calling to finally get the attention of an officer from the Cayo police station.

In the aftermath of the attack, the traumatized mother has urged residents of the Santiago Juan area to remain vigilant and take safety precautions.

The community has begun to express concerns about the lack of police presence and slow response times in their once-safe neighborhood.

Many are now calling for increased patrols and more accessible law enforcement to address the growing safety concerns in the area.
